Electronic Resources
Working in partnership with Academic
Liaison & teaching staff, the Electronic Resources Team
(ERT) acquires, processes & manages
both e-resources (e-books;
e-journals
& databases)
& paper journal subscriptions.
In line with university policy we strive to provide easy, simple
access to resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our strategy
is to provide access to services rather than maintain physical holdings
of material on the shelves. Our resources include digitised texts
(Heron); full-text databases; almost 9000 e-journals; e-newspapers
etc.
We also collect statistics of use for these resources to aid evaluation
& ascertain value for money.
Requests for new e-resources are considered by the bi-annual Electronic
Resources Co-ordinating Group (ERCG) which has academic
representation from each of the Schools.
We are currently engaged in a Collaborative Academic Storage for
Scotland (CASS) project to transfer older & less used print
journal titles to the
National Library of Scotland. It is expected that access to articles
in CASS will be delivered electronically to the requestor’s
desktop.
