Electronic Resources

Working in partnership with Academic Liaison & teaching staff, the Electronic Resources Team (ERT) acquires, processes & manages
both e-resources (e-books; e-journals & databases) & paper journal subscriptions.

In line with university policy we strive to provide easy, simple access to resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our strategy is to provide access to services rather than maintain physical holdings of material on the shelves. Our resources include digitised texts (Heron); full-text databases; almost 9000 e-journals; e-newspapers etc.

We also collect statistics of use for these resources to aid evaluation & ascertain value for money.

Requests for new e-resources are considered by the bi-annual Electronic Resources Co-ordinating Group (ERCG) which has academic representation from each of the Schools.

We are currently engaged in a Collaborative Academic Storage for Scotland (CASS) project to transfer older & less used print journal titles to the
National Library of Scotland. It is expected that access to articles in CASS will be delivered electronically to the requestor’s desktop.

For more information on any of the above please contact Marian Miller (M.Miller@gcal.ac.uk).
