General Information

The Student ICT Skills Programme is aimed at helping you develop the skills required to use the University's ICT equipment effectively in your studies. The following change to the ICT Skills Assessment Regulations from Academic Year 2005-06 means the following students will be required to pass the University Certificate of Basic ICT Competency before gaining a Caledonian University award:

From September 2005 all University Undergraduate students will be required to successfully complete the ICT Skills module by the end of their level 2 studies as a condition of progression to level 3.  If you are currently a level 3 student, then you will be required to complete ICT Skills prior to progressing to level 4.  As is currently the case, students may not graduate from the university until they have successfully completed the ICT Skills module.

*The requirement for Postgraduate students to complete the ICT Skills module is removed.

Depending on your programme of study you will gain the skills required for the Certificate in one of a number of ways:

  • You will be taught the skills within module(s) you study
  • You will receive an additional short course on ICT skills
  • You will already have all, or most, of the skills required and will either receive no formal training, or be expected to use self-teach materials or drop-in clinics to attain any additional skills you may require
  • You will be exempt as you have previously gained the Certificate from Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow University, Strathclyde University or Queen Margaret College - you must present documentary evidence of this.

All students (except those who are exempt) are required to sit and pass an ICT Skills Assessment to prove their competency. There is no limit to the number of attempts you may take to pass the Assessment. To find out the arrangements for your course click on 'How you will be expected to gain the Certificate'.
