All new PCs, or re-imaged PCs, come with the following software packages as standard:

  • Windows XP
  • Microsoft Office Professional (Complete Suite)
  • Acrobat Professional
  • VLC DVD Player
  • Final Burner
  • Minitab
  • SPSS
  • Internet Explorer & Firefox Browser

For general application information and knowledge guides, please try out our application based knowledge base which is available in My Caledonian.  Once you are logged into My Caledonian, go to the Me(Staff) tab, under Applications there is a link for Right Answers.   There are topics covering virtually every popular business application from vendors such as Microsoft, Netscape, Novell, Corel, Lotus, Adobe and Symantec. Please open it up and give it a try.

Software Licensing

Automatic Software Deployment for PCs

Due to security vulnerabilities on PCs, we have adopted a system of automatic security update deployment. This enables us to keep University staff PCs up to date. More information can be found here.

Software Applications can also be deployed this way.  The document below explains the steps involved.

Web Authentication Guide

Due to security improvements to the University network infrastructure, a necessary change to the authentication/logon process will become active from Friday 29th August 2008. Information on this new system can web found in the Web Authentication Guide.
