How does a member of University staff arrange access?
First of all discuss this with the Head of your department, who will have to authorise your departmental expenditure on this service. Next complete the online form VPN Access Application.
Your completed form will arrive via email at the IT Helpdesk, who will log a call on your behalf and confirm receipt of your request. The call will be put on hold awaiting the confirmation of the funds from the Head of your department. This will be in the form of a signed budget transfer (budget code to be credited = 0216 1001), with “VPN fee for your name” in the description field.
IT staff will then set up your account and then contact you to arrange the handover of a keychain which will generate your password for VPN access. The software required is available for download from My Caledonian along with installation instructions.
However if you encounter any difficulties on a university owned laptop then IT staff may be able to load the software for you, if you log a separate call with the IT Helpdesk (x1234).
