Adware and Spyware

Are you constantly bombarded with lots of pop-up adverts and noticed that your Internet web browsing is slower than it used to be? Chances are you have lots of adware and spyware on your machine. These programs can modify system files and install programs without your knowledge, track your visited websites, security and privacy information and send information back to those who wrote the programs.
The University has just invested in an enterprise Anti-Spyware solution called Webroot AntiSpyware.
We have started deploying this software throughout the University
Once installed on your machine, you will notice a small yellow icon in the notification area of the task bar like so:
To open the console, double click on the icon. This will open the user interface of the client.
It shows the latest spyware definition dates, when the last sweep was and information about the sweeps.
The client will be configured to run a full sweep to check for Ad-ware and Spyware once a week.
The client also runs active shields to protect your machine from Ad-ware and Spyware that may be installed on your machine during normal every day use.
The session summary window will show what has been found and removed, if anything.
To initiate a manual sweep of your machine, click on Sweep Now in the left hand pane. You can now start a manual sweep of your system by clicking on the start button.
The Quarantined section shows you what has been quarantined:
If you don't see the Webroot icon in your system tray or if you have any questions about the software, you can contact the helpdesk on x1234 or email the Helpdesk
