University Anti-Virus Protection

Our desktop Anti-Virus solution is provided by McAfee; McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (PCs and Servers) and VirusScan for Macs. We also use EmailSystems via Altman Technologies to scan incoming messages for viruses and spam and McAfee GroupShield on the Exchange email server.

PC anti-virus protection is centrally managed and administered using VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i.

Is your VirusScan up to date?

Click HERE to view the current definition files.

The definition files are updated daily during the week.

To check if you have adequate anti-virus software on your machine, follow the instructions below:

In the System tray area (bottom right hand corner of your task bar - see pictures below) you should see a V shield.

If you right-mouse click over the V shield and click “About” or “About VirusScan Enterprise” an information box will appear.

Please contact the helpdesk if:

  • You do not have a V shield in your system tray
  • If your V shield is disabled
  • If your definition files are more than 1 increment less than the number in the table for the corresponding day
  • If your scan engine is not the same as the number at the top of this page

You can also check if you have a McAfee group in your programs folder on the start menu. You will find it under Start, Programs, McAfee.
